Im back! Coffee shop politic spoken here!

I'm just back from 3 days nonstop exposure to sunlight. I'm sun burned, dehydrated and dead tired but am forced to sit in front of this computer to blog. More on that on the next post.

Its old news now that the opposition did overwhelmingly better than expected in this elections. Good work I say. For me its a development of a more mature democracy in Malaysia.

Im proud to say its our generation which will determine whether the opposition will stay in power. Right now after interacting with students from other schools nearly 100% of them are pro-opposition. We differ from our predecessors in the fact that the felt that their vote did not count. Seeing from this general election, every vote counts as BN got through with wafer thin margins. Rest assured now that we are confident in our system

WE WILL TURN UP AND VOTE

My advice to BN, please stop your complacency. Your sure win attitude has gotten us sick, your take on politics for personal gain old. Change for the better, prove it to us or my generation of voters will ensure the opposition will stay in power if not become stronger.

The same goes to the opposition. Prove us your worth by living up to your promises. But I am confident that as many of the opposition MPs and State reps are fresh, new and fairly uncorrupted that they will do a better job. I find that the politicians whom join the opposition as slightly more honest because following the last trouncing of the opposition in the 2004 general elections, many perceived that being a opposition member was killing your future. (exception for those who joined politics after making some big HUHA. ie: HINDRAF) So all these young faces in the opposition lineup mean they must have joined for a cause that meant more than just money.

My area voted(subang) Keadilan into power due to the fact that after promising not to do further development of a FOREST RESERVE, a certain MP broke that promise and started some funny business there. The residents association were up in arms and several associations grouped together and invited MPs from both parties to a forum. The opposition candidates signed the resolution immediately but the incumbent was reluctant. What broke the straw on the camels back was that the MP demanded that the members of the RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION show their ICs to him in a rude manner. I tell you he didn't win any votes there.

Like it or not even though PAS has this whole Islamic state policy, they are actually much more fairer to non-Muslims compared to BN. Take Kelantan for instance, there is so much less red tape involved when a non-muslim wants to do anything such as purchase land.

I admit that BN has the ability to bring the country further than the opposition. But they are slaking, corrupted and no matter what the sentiment, they are just going downhill. In the long run I feel that this will benefit us as a nation due to the fact that both the opposition and the current government must buck up and perform in their respective constituencies. Nothing good comes from a monopoly.

It all boils down to voting for the candidate and not a particular party. Voting for the person you are sure will bring improvement and manage your constituencies resources more efficiently should be the way things are done. But people are too blinded by the flags of different parties. I guess we have still a way to go before producing a modern democratic society.

But the oppositions big gains show that we are progressing slowly to that peak.

For a last reminder to those eligible to vote in the next elections,

REGISTER AND VOTE BECAUSE YOUR VOTE DOES MATTER!
