Passed my driving test!
Ok I passed.Big deal. It ended as soon as it started. Driving is like walking to me!
How can one fail a walking test unless one is extremely drunk?
But today im here to give you PJ-ians a guide to the most pain-free driving experience.
1.Dont take your license In PJ!
The first thing that comes to mind after I asked the 100th person is how corrupt the whole PJ system is. Stories of duit suap(bribing), incompetence, and the likes always come up.
In PJ,
a) most schools do not pick you up from your own home(you have to walk to the nearest branch)
b) the driving schools encourage bribing, saying unless you bribe, the chances of you passing are next to nil. So of course it will be harder! JPJ there have become expectant of your bribe.
c) the coaches there(majority) do not go through the run down of what happens during the exam such as proper procedures before you even begin...... So how do you expect to pass? They also aledgely want you to fail so you retake the test and top up for more lessons.
d) Although the pricing is cheaper, it comes up to be the same(after bribing)
e) The more established ones provide insurance
f)Newer cars(not some crappy kancil with a spent gearbox system and hand break)
g)The service of course,is better
So you will be paying the same price for better services.
My tip:
i)Ask around before you decide to learn in a particular place. A place with the reputation of heavy bribing, jammy roads and incompetent coaches are of course a big no-no.
ii) Check out their benefits, do they come to your house? Is there insurance?
Well I went to Metro One Stop center in Subang. The course cost Rm998(10 ringgit for picture+65 ringgit for P registration). I can declare that I am very happy with the service provided there. From what I see, bribing there is not very rampant(i guess it still happens), the service there was fantastic. So dont be hesitant on paying the extra 200 ringgit and there is no extra hidden costs plus unlimited lessons until you are ready.
Its worth it.
From what I see, the JPJ there are not overly strict. So research on where you will be taking your test is very important.
*Im not advertising for Metro but seriously. The service there is way better from the horror stories from my friends. All seasoned drivers.
2)Take your test this year
With burgeoning fuel prices, the cost of taking lessons will increase drastically. But worry not, they will increase the prices only after the election. So once its election time, its high time you book a place 1st so you pay this years price instead of next years.
Its a reported 200-300 ringgit increase everywhere. So if you are 16, fret not, inquire with the driving school of your choice on this issue.
*Make sure you go to an established center in this case, to reduce the risk of your coah running away with your money.(it has happened before)
3)Relax!
Just do as you do in practice, ignore the JPJs presence and you will be fine.
Well thats that. I hope this will help you to enjoy a pain free driving experience.
