Donated blood.Tired

I'm currently feeling 450 grams lighter. It was not as bad at it sounds, donating blood. In fact the blood test hurt more then the donating part of the process.I'm proud to say that im O+ the best blood group around!

Can you explain why all the other blood types can accept my blood but I can only accept blood from my own blood type? Its because all the other Peoples blood are not
worthy of entering my system!Dirty BLOOD!

No just kidding. To read on the REAL reason to why I am a universal donor and why i cant take in other blood types click here.

But donating blood is a very satisfying process and in just 30 minutes we can save 3 lives!
Let me vouch that donating blood is a rather painless affair, provided you get a good nurse after all.Click here to see if you are eligible.

So here is a tip when donating blood.

1)After going through all the necessary tasks and all they will give you a basket with all the necessary things.

2)Before committing your blood for the greater good, survey a bit. Try and spot the most senior and experienced nurse.Usually they are old Chinese women.I don't know why but thats usually the case.

3)There you go.The next thing is to pray that you get a good nurse.

4)Happy donating!

I'm happy to say that todays blood drive was marginally successful. But I feel the school did not do enough to promote it. Well I did my best to get some people to donate.

Congrats to my classmates who saved 3 precious lives apiece.

1)Jess
2)Chaeyin
3)Kai Ying

For those who have donated before

1)Wan Tien
2)Veron

For those who tried but failed the test
1)May Yoong

For the rest........

MESSAGE
TO ALL THE GUYS WHO DID NOT DONATE BLOOD TODAY.YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE.

Why did you do it?Why did you kill 3 people by depriving them of your precious blood? You are not women. You dont menstruate. You dont get pregnant. Please dont give me some bullshit
reason that parents dont let you to donate. Most of you are already 18.

If you are scared by needles just say so.At least some women are men enough to say so.

So the next time you are presented with this opportunity to give back to society and save lives, do not waste it.

Sometimes the most simple of gestures are the best ones.

Star of David in a (Muslim)Mamak shop.

I was just eating at a Mamak shop somewhere in Sunway Damansara.I ordered a Nasi Goreng Pataya(Fried rice wrapped in egg) and I got this.

The main question that bugs me(more likely making me laugh) is why a presumably Muslim eatery is serving a dish with the Star of David blatantly splashed on top of it?
Doesn't Our country or most of Muslim population for that matter detest all things related to Isreal,Jews and the like?
So what is the symbol of Israel and a sign of religious significance towards of the Jews being served on top of a meal in a mamak shop?

More sinister things come to mind at first such as Jewish conspiracy theory of infiltration at the highest order. After the all the jews know of our peculiar affinity towards these Mamak shops. What better way to wipe us out by poisoning our food supply as what true blood Malaysian doesn't eat at a Mamak shops?

The most probable reason would be of course pure ignorance. This is in the end just food for thought.I have no real prejudice towards our Jewish brothers. After all they are the ones who brought many technological advances to the modern world, albeit stealing land from the Palestinians, killing many innocent people and holding the worlds largest super power under the palms of its hand.

So next time when you order something at an eatery just take some time to contemplate on the dish you are about to devour. You might just find something interesting.

Harry Potter and the ugly price war

Disclaimer:WARNING LONG POST AHEAD
Ps:There are no spoilers below

Finally the long awaited 7th book has arrived! The best part is,instead of waiting in a ridiculously long line and paying a ridiculously high price,I got the bona fide book for only RM69.90 as opposed with getting it at 109.90 bucks from those other damned capitalist bookstores (40 ringgit cheaper for those mathless ones)

"We are here to maintain our integrity. We (the booksellers) all compete on fair ground, this is not fair ground," said Popular Bookstore Co (M) Sdn Bhd executive director Lim Lee Ngoh.

Certain bookstores(MPH,Popular,Times,Haris) even had the nerve to boycott the whole process and refused to sell the book, which many in Malaysia have eagerly waited for, depriving Malaysians of the joys which other nations have been bestowed upon by our queen and goddess JK.Roling. (those who pre-ordered the book will of course get them)
This boycott is in protest over the so-called "indiscriminate" price discount offered by hypermarkets Tesco and Carrefour.
What fair ground? In business there is no fair ground.Tesco is using an old marketing trick called lost leader. Its where they sell a product at a very low price so that consumers will come and buy it,and at the same time come and pick up others things. Its a promotional gimmick.
In this case, people come to buy the harry potter book end up getting some groceries along the way.

MPH Mid Valley removing Harry Potter promotional items yesterday.(pic from nst)

Whats more,they claimed

"The book selling industry rarely made a profit on many of the books, which was why extremely popular books such as the Harry Potter series were important for sales."

From this statement we can see that its hard to make money through book sales alone so margins from normal books which don't hit blockbuster status are quite low. They can charge high rates and yet people will still buy these so called blockbusters as they are blinded by the pure need to read after a 2 year gap of no Harry potter.Take the book Eragon. It was RM20-30 something before it became a best seller and now its selling at 50 bucks+
Economics 101, supply and demand.

These capitalist opportunists shamelessly justify these crazy prices by saying that costs are ballooned to great proportions by marketing and promotional efforts and all sorts of other bullshit. They are just out to make a profit if you ask me.

The old guard are naturally feeling threatened now.

MPH chief operating officer Patricia Chen (left) and Popular executive director Lim Lee Ngoh holding up advertisements on ‘Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows’ being sold at hypermarkets for RM69.90.(pic from nst)

"It came out of nowhere and was a shock to all of us (the booksellers)," said MPH Bookstores (M) Sdn Bhd chief operating officer Patricia Chen at a hastily held press conference yesterday.
They are naturally upset. After all, these hyper markets are applying the same formula that brought cheap household stuff to well....our households. Before this they only had themselves to compete with and the prices were generally maintained, and similar to each other.Basically a conglomerate monopoly of big players. Then along come the hypermarkets and bye bye monopoly.I think this is healthy for the hypermarkets to start selling books as the overall prices of books will inevitably fall. Why is this?I will discuss this below.
Penguin Singapore and Malaysia managing director Eddy Teo said there would be no replenishment on top of the opening order due to unavailability of stocks and the British publisher of the novel, Bloomsbury, had no plans for reprints now.

Freelance designer Ea Lau Shavin, 35, felt that the major booksellers’ decision not to sell Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was unfair to consumers. "How many hypermarkets are there in the country anyway? We can only find them in major towns," she said. "Those who are in smaller towns will not be able to purchase the books, even at a higher price at bookstores. "The bookstores have a wider reach than hypermarkets. They are shooting themselves in the foot," said Shavin. She added that hypermarkets probably had a limited supply of such books and many consumers would not be able to purchase the books.

Well don't believe so much that the books will be sold out soon in Malaysia.I thought so too after seeing in the news mad crowd of children rioting in the streets in the UK and the US.But I decided to try my luck anyway as I had to go to tesco anyway to buy groceries.Imagine my shock when I found that there was hundreds of books left on the shelves!I imagined mad scrambling, punching, total chaos. What I found was 3 or 4 individuals milling around, some with visible shock on their faces about the cheap prices. Some even inquired whether the books were pirated.I was puzzled.Come on people! Its Harry Potter! Its selling for barely 1 pound! The price of a Happy Meal in London!Whats wrong with you people!

Then I remembered I was in Malaysia

Why?
1)Surveys indicate Malaysians read an average of ONE book a month(or something along that number)
2)They read the paper even less(exept the sports and fashion section)

Thats why I said a reduce of price in books will be a boon for malaysians. We are already so behind in terms of reading its embarrassing.I myself only buy books at book fairs and warehouse sales as I find books sold at book stores to be horribly overpriced.Just now in Tesco I bought a whole stack of Tom Clancy books at a fraction of the price which they are being sold at the major book stores(i got them for only 3-6 ringgit apiece). So the people who you turn away will buy the books elsewhere.(they are still sold at Borders and other smaller bookstores). As Shavin said, they are shooting themselves in the foot.It seems that these boycotters will be the real losers in the end.

Penguin Singapore and Malaysia managing director Eddy Teo said in Singapore yesterday. “Avid fans are looking for a magical atmosphere rather than just cheap price,”

Hahaha yeah right....

So what has this taught me?

1)Never pre-order
2)Marketing rocks!
3)Other stuff i am not allowed to say

Thank you JK.Rowling for this godsend!May the true lord bless you always!

Bye Bye Afi and other miscelaneous stuff!

Today marked the end of my good friend and classmate Afi.We had an impromptu farewell during Muet and maths today(she just conveniently told us that today was her last day).Mrs.Goh was kind enough to let us go out and buy a cake(blueberry cheese cake.Yummy!!) and we toasted her farewell.
I really felt sad just now,but I reminded myself that UIA is just round the corner and i would be able to drive in about a months time.So we all can go visit afi there anytime soon!(its boarding school style for the pre-U students)

Read about Afi's farewell at these other blogs(they wrote it better than I did =p)

Bye Bye Afimomo!

I read the good news(or bad news anyway you put it) in Afimomo's blog. She got a place in Biological science at UIA,which is just a few minutes drive away from Samad. Its sad but we cant be selfish in asking her to stay as the University path is the easier path and whats more, her future is assured this way.Stpm is just too plagued with uncertainty.I have known her for only a month but yet she is already ingrained into the L6S1 family. Her talents as an artists will sorely be missed, especially in designing the form 6 society shirts, the editorial board, and the many various posts that she holds. But most off all her presence in class will sorely be missed.

I think i will cry.Seriously.......

Well this is not an obituary. She is not dieing, merely moving on with life.So I sincerely wish you success in your exploits at UIA. Good luck and dont forget us yea?

Memorizing

Wow school work is really getting to me..
The work load is killing and I am practically lagging behind all my subjects when it comes to homework. Then there is prefect duties.

Got to school today and the prefects have started to bully the probates.Poor them, they have to sing the school, recite the school pledge etc.
Surprisingly many of them don't know the school song or pledge.Well proud to say I have conquered both.

Go to these blogs and see the pics lah.My computer's minuscule power cant handle the uploading process.

    Im on probation!!

Well first off you know how I hate blogging on things other people have already blogged. So just go see for yourself what I did during gotong-royong at

  • Vincent's(Winnie)blog

  • Chaeyin's blog

  • (It has pictures!Something rare in my blog!)
Summary-Students go to school to gotong-royong but end up cam-whoring and eating at KFC.Enough said.

    Ok got that over with.

Yesterday was the 1st day of my prefect probation period. It includes wearing my schools cute tie and a tag with my name misspelled on it and the words probation printed on the heading.
I got to school and searched for Pik Yuen to log in.
Then,I helped to carry out the chairs for the assembly.
Once that was accomplished I just proceeded to the back and observed her taking the morning assembly.(Im supposed to listen as she hinted something about taking assembly and what not)
Well when they sang the national anthem it seemed I was the only one singging(I was quite loud.)I felt I was making a fool out of my self...lol(i think the teachers on the other side could hear me(and only me...)

Ok I just stood there and stoned out.....and finally they sang the school song! After that i went and collected my tag from Pik yuen and logged out.Owh yeah while waiting ,she was scolding all the other probates.Something about them with the words useless used many many many times.

    I ran back to class.

Ps:I shushed my classmates ala samadian prefects today! What fun whoopeee!

    Recess(Day 1)

I thankfully found my Boss in the canteen, seemingly sorting out the mess the probates caused her.Following her was no problem as she was stopped every step by confused probates asking her what to do with their cute little form 2 puppy dog eyes.Awww.....

While walking she bestowed upon me some prefect-ly advice.Like what to do in certain situations. So the first task of the day was to scold(tell of) some poor girl in L6Arts2.Well she was pretty rude to me but I let it go,this time.......
Then we went to tell of the upper 6-ers pulak.Well sad to say 10 seconds after we got them out the bell rang and they went back to class..
    Well we tried.

So after that I logged out and went back to class...

    Day 2(Today!!!)

Hey I'm actually blogging about a current issue!Man how cool is that!Today I reached school extra-early.Lets introduce a new concept. The signature drive.I have this book and I have to collect the names of 61 'senior' prefects.Sigh brings back memories of taking signatures from my seniors from rmc.Painful memories.....

    Comparison time!

1)The seniors here are very nice.In RMC not so nice....

2)Well their mean is finding out their full names, favorite colors, what is the leader of the Auotobots etc.Rmc's mean is punches,kicks,belanja-ing,massages and all-sorts of hell-ing.

3)They are very nice here. You can ask them to find their name in the book.(the reallyreally nice ones)Well lets say you dont wanna know what will happen If you do that in Rmc

4)The basic requirement here is name, class, rank. In rmc its Name, rank, military number and company.
It doesnt seem hard but try remembering a 6 digit number belonging to 121 seniors.

Well i could go on and on.My dad can go on the whole night until my mum has to drag him away.
Lets just say I am looking foward to collecting all those signatures.(I got till the 14th of july)

    Back to the story

When logging in with Pik Yuen a junior asked her for her signature.Feeling mean I told her she was missing her English name. :p
Which so happens is not mentioned anywhere, name list, school mag etc..
Luckily for me,I know it.Today I was guarding the pathway, the place where the late comers, long hair-ers and misbehaviors are wardened off.
I just stood there and watched as the late comers side swelled with people.

Then Pn.Marina came and started cutting peoples hair.Well it was pretty insignificant.Just a few snips here and there.I profess to cutting many a juniors hair, making a mess of their heads. Those were the days.
Well jessica's 'guy' was also subjected to Pn.Marina's blades of fury.

    Recess

Nothing much apparently.I was instructed to take care of the basketball court. It seems that the basketball court is the hottest place in the whole school in terms of discipline problems.Today I just saw 5 probates just stoning there.
    Nothing happened.

I took the opportunity to talk to them until the bell rang.
I then signed out and went back to class..

Well thats pretty much it.Hard to imagine all that happened in just 2 days.A prefects life is very hectic indeed. But i am enjoying it and feel very passionate about this job.Lastly thank you pik yuen for your tutelage these past few days.Appreciate your time and your energy.

I pretty much typed an overlong post here.Better stop before the lesser read of my blogs reader demographic simply give up and walk away.

    So until than.Tada!

    First Orders From The Boss!!!!

Yie Hahn is currently being bitten by killer mosquitoes

Wow prefect's duties haven't even started yet and already I have been given duties by the Boss....(sweats)

Order 1 (taken from my blogs cbox)

    jess: add me for messenger!
    this is an order!
ur task is to find out my msn add.

ps:Why must she repeat what she told me twice? She really must think i am stupid :(

Order 2 (taken from her blog)

(for more info on this refer to those who work under me) I like to work with the following principles:
    1. Work means no play but plain serious working
    2. Mistake done, rectify and prevent repetition
    3. Don't ask why for orders and stop fooling or mocking orders
    4. Don't know then ask,don't act smart
    5. Work according to situations and circumstances means work smart
    6. Out of work time, play as crazy and hard
basically there's about it,so why I post this?I have hidden reasons for my juniors......haha...

Today the whole school held a "Gotong-royong" but i will restrain from posting until I get the pics from Vincent,Chris and Veron!

Sigh gonna do my assignment now.Blog Ya L8tr
